If You Clap Once Don’t Clap At All
On every article in Medium, you guys get an option to applaud for it. Now some of you might have noticed that Medium allows you to clap for an article more than once.
Yes, that’s right. You guys have an option to clap for an article depending on how much you liked reading it!
Now I have noticed that a lot of the users clap for an article only once. I mean, dude, if you go to a concert and just clap once at the finale isn’t that gonna be weird?
Unlike on YouTube and Facebook, Medium allows the reader to RATE the story out of 50. So how does that work ?
For example,
A well-written story deserves 50 (50/50) claps whereas, a good but not perfect story deserves 40 claps (40/50).
If the story is ok-ok, you can bestow it 30 claps (30/50), but if it is average, give no more than 25 claps (25/30).
If a story has many mistakes in terms of grammar, you can give between 10 and 20 claps.
Finally, if the story is a piece of junk, then give it 0 claps. In this case, you may provide written feedback to the reader. Help them understand what you like to read or what was wrong with their article.
When you read a story on Medium, think about yourself as a teacher. Reward the amazing students with warm applause, and strengthen the weak ones by bestowing fair claps.
The next time you clap, think about it in this way; how many points, out of 50, does this story deserve?
